Welcome to Devir

We'd like to introduce you to our company and explain you the philosophy that we try to give in our products and in the activities we organize.

Our company exists in the United States, Brasil, Portugal, Spain and Chile. Since the foundation of the first Devir in Brasil, in 1985, we've made an effort to offer to the public those comics, books, magazines or games we love. We just publish things that entertain, that are a part of worlds filled with fantasy. Histories to read, illustrations to admire and games to enjoy, to use the imagination, creativity and inteligence.

We also worry about offering the readers and players the possibility to share their experiences. Our vocation is not only being publishers or distributors of books and games. We also believe that there's people like us out there. People that believe in a connection between a Magic tournament, a RPG campaign, an afternoon reading a fantasy book and a good belgian french comic book. We make an effort to know your opinions and tastes so you can have what you expect.

Call us romantic, but we belive that there's a young public with a critical spirit. Girls and boys that escape from the conventional ways to deal with free time and look for something more. We like to believe that there are some teenagers that prefer to get close, with all the innocence they have when they're 15 years old, and ask their town hall for a subvention in order to create a RPG club, instead of spending the afternoon in front of the TV or playing videogames. Young people that travel five hundred kilometers to play a couple of MtG matches knowing that they have no way to win the tournament. People that move because they like the games, because they want to meet other people, that enjoy the same things, going to comic conventions or

In Devir we know these players, this future reading public, these people that know about movies, american comics, novels and tabletop games. We like them, because we're like them. Freaks, if you want to call us that. Weird people in a society that elevates professional sports to a mediatic shrine, without the superation spirit of the Baron of Coubertin, and that rejects the RPGs because they don't understand it, because they fear what they can't control, imagination.

We like to say and think that we don't just sell cards. We don't just sell comics, or books or games. Our vocation is to offer a tailored enviroment to our public. We like them to invest their time in us, and because of that we try to offer them the best products, or at least those that we also like. Smart games, interesting publications, and above all the opportunity to play them, to comment them, have fun and make friends.

Our hope is that there are people that look for this kind of entertainment. Far from the mainstream types of entertainment that prefer an afternoon with some friends playing "Lord of the Rings" than spending hours playing on the street.

Maybe we have a different way of seeing things, it's true. Maybe our proposals for entertainment are different from what's common, it's possible that they're unconventional, but we consider them the best and most intelligent ones.

Well, this is Devir. A company that enjoys what it does and that doesn't pretend to change the world, but a company that would like there to be as much interest in games and novels as there is in for the world of the jet set. Because we believe that without the freaks, without comics, without the King Arthur, without Frodo Baggins, and above all without games, there'd be no future.
